Armada Technologies Pro900 OffersThe Armada Pro 900 cable wire locator consists of a transmitter with a broadcast antenna inside and a receiver that tracks irrigation wires, and lost valves and finds major faults in cables. The transmitter is the long gray box that also serves as the carrying case and the receiver is the yellow and black wand.
The Pro900 is an excellent locator to track outdoor lighting lines, telephone cables, and AC power lines. The Armada wire locator includes an AC noise rejection system, which makes locating more accurate.
Features
This advanced cable locator provides a clear, clean, interference-free signal. No buzzing, no AC cracking, no drowning of your signal beneath the local electrical transformer or electrical cable. All the interference is filtered out. The user is then able to clearly hear the beeping or continuous tone that is easy to follow and easy to track. The operation is simple. The transmitter places a specific tracing signal onto the metallic conductor you are trying to locate. This creates an AC signal on the cable and produces an electromagnetic field around the cable. The signal is received when the wand or receiver is close and the feedback is given in three different ways: audible external speaker, headset, or on the signal bar graph on the receiver's display screen.
The receiver and transmitter must always be in the same mode (Direct Clip-On, Broadcast, or Passive) to operate correctly. In tracing circuits, it is important to note, that a return path needs to be present. This return path completes the circuit. Usually, this will be the earth-ground stake. The signal travels down the cable and returns to the ground stake. You don't have to use a ground stake, but you do have to give the signal a way to return to the transmitter, so a common wire could work as well.
The tracing signal will always move on the path of least resistance. You can choose out of two tracing frequencies - 2 kHz and 33 kHz in direct connection mode - to facilitate more accurate tracing or gain more distance. The total distance in direct connection æ'mode reaches up to 5,000 feet, and the locating depth is up to 8 feet. Finding a wire is easier, as Armada's advanced cable locator comes with a stereo headset to listen to tracing tone in addition to a standard speaker. Hence locating in a noisy environment is easy.
The broadcast frequency of 175 kHz can be used to couple the signal to all underground utilities, so you can find them, without being connected to them directly. This method is widely used to scan any area before digging, just to find out, if it's safe to start excavating in the area.
The Armada Pro900 underground cable locator finds cables in 4 different ways. First, via direct connection: while the transmitter is connected to a cable it sends a signal of either 2kHz or 33kHz and the locator will react to that cable. Second, when the inductive clamp is connected to a cable or conduit in which the cable is placed, the signal will be induced into the cable. This mode is very useful when there is no direct access to the target cable.
Third, an area scanning mode - the inductive antenna sends a signal to a ground where cables are located, and the locator will map out cables and pipes present within the surrounding area. This mode is very useful for most construction work when the user wants to determine the presence of any cables within a construction work zone. These wireless connection methods of the inductive clamp or inductive antenna give the Pro900 incredible flexibility when tracking wires and cables that you either can't or don't wish to disconnect, like live electrical or in-service CATV lines.
The fourth mode is passive; the locator will pick up 50/60 Hz frequency from live electrical lines. Once the wand is turned on, simply search an area until you hear a buzzing sound. There is no beeping as the transmitter is not used. Contractors can identify the path of 50/60 Hz underground cables without disconnecting them or connecting to the cable.
However, the passive mode might not detect power cabling if there is no live electrical current present in the cable at the time. Therefore, you should NOT rely on the 50/60 Hz passive mode as the sole method of locating power lines.
The Armada Technologies Pro 900 can also be used to find breaks or severe wire damage. However, unlike when you are tracing a wire, the break or wire damage will cause the signal to stop at the point of the break. Either the speaker or the analog meter on the receiver will indicate this drop. Generally, the greater the damage to the wire, the greater the drop-off at the point of damage.
The Pro900 uses the triangulation method for depth determination. Simply acquire the wire path in the null mode, place the receiver at a 45-degree angle to that path, move the receiver horizontally in the direction the receiver wand is leaning and when you get the null again, the distance traveled is the depth of the wire.
The Armada Tech Pro 900 has two options for powering the transmitter: AC main power or 8 D alkaline batteries installed inside the transmitter battery compartment. When AC power outlets are located close by, the AC adapter is a great way to power the transmitter as it provides constant power and does not diminish the batteries.
Both the transmitter and receiver have a battery indicator so you always know the amount of juice left in your batteries.
