Extreme heat is a constant companion, and protective gear exacerbates the physical strain on a firefighter's body. Building heat acclimatization is a critical component of training, but doing so without incurring heat illness or injury is equally critical and challenging. Heat injury is a constant danger with many incidents of heat related illness occurring every year. Heat illness prevention programs recommend measuring Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) and implementing ACGIH work/recovery and hydration guidelines. WBGT is a much more complete measure of heat stress for the firefighter because it includes the effects of the radiant heat of the sun, fire, or hot surfaces. Unlike other WBGT meters on the market, the Kestrel 5400 Fire Weather Pro WBGT is also a rugged, compact and easy-to-use portable weather station. Clip the Kestrel 5400 into the secure tripod vane mount to set up a weather and heat safety monitoring station in seconds. Measure wind speed, direction, temperature, humidity, pressure, dew point, elevation, density altitude, PIG, FDFM and more. In addition to measuring the current environmental conditions, the Kestrel 5400 Fire Weather Pro tracks and logs over 10,000 sets of time-stamped data. Your data log can be transferred to an iOS/Android device wirelessly with the LiNK wireless communication option and free Kestrel LiNK app, then exported and shared via email with ease. Data can also be transfered to a Windows/Mac device with either the accessory Kestrel LiNK Dongle or waterproof USB Data Transfer Cable (both sold separately).
The Kestrel 5400 Fire Weather Meter Pro WBGT offers a large, high-resolution and contrast display and easy font readability. It also includes a built-in dual color backlight, extra-strong polycarbonate lens and AA battery operation, along with LiNK iOS and Android wireless connectivity and app support. Kestrel LiNK is the free app that powers the Fire Weather DROP data logger. With Kestrel LiNK on your smart phone or tablet, you can view real-time readings from any DROP logger within wireless range (up to 100' or more line of sight) via Bluetooth low energy. Min/Max/Average readings are clearly displayed and the data log is viewable as a scrolling graph with detailed data for each logged point. The Kestrel LiNK app also allows adjustment of the logging interval and other settings as well as real-time threshold alerts. Readings can be updated as frequently as every 2 seconds and logging time and date are automatically updated whenever connected to your smart device. You can also send and share real-time and logged environmental data via email, Facebook or Twitter.

Sometimes we only use the air temperature as a measure of how comfortable we will feel when working or playing outside. But when the days get longer and the sun becomes stronger we need to take into account a lot more than air temperature.
Heat-induced illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke occur when your body can't keep itself cool. The evaporation of sweat is slowed on hot and humid days causing your body temperature to rise and become ill.

What is WBGT or Wet Bulb Globe Temperature? WBGT index is a term used in industry, sports and other areas to indicate the heat stress level for humans and animals. It calculates the heat stress of radiant heat, which takes into account temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle and cloud cover. This type of meter combines these factors into a single number so you can quickly take into account the conditions you are in.
What is Black Globe Temperature (GT)? Skin can burn when it comes in contact with exposed machinery, tools and containers left in hot direct sunlight. Black Globe Temperature represents the integrated effects of radiation and wind on these objects.
All returns must be authorized. Items returned prior to authorization will not be accepted. For international customers where applicable, customers must ship any returns to us freight and duty prepaid. Return freight charges for internationsl shippments will be the responsibility of the customer.
Defective new equipment may be returned for warrantyrepair/exchange to us within (5) days of the shipment receipt date. After five (5) days, returns will be handled by direct contact and in accordance with the warranty terms of the item's manufacturer. Items that have malfunctioned due to mishandling, electrical overload, etc., will be subject to repair charge.
Non defective new equipment will be authorized for return within five (5) days of the shipment receipt date if the equipment is still in new, re-sellable condition with the original manual(s), accessories, packing material and carton. We reserve the right to reject returnsin which there is no original packaging, missing accessories, damage or visible signs of usage of the item. A restocking fee of up to 25% of purchase price may apply. Special orders and dangerous goods are non-returnable.
